Westmill Co-op  was the first wind farm co-operative in the South of England which gave local people, as a matter of priority, and others, an opportunity to invest in the production of renewable energy. Westmill Co-op has 2,374 members. Commercial generation of energy began in February 2008. The five towers are 49 metres high, topped by a nacelle containing the generator, gearbox and other operating equipment. Each generator is driven by a three-bladed propeller, with each blade measuring 31 metres.

Westmill Solar Co-operative owns and operates the first community owned solar farm in the UK - the largest community owned solar project in the world. The Solar Park  consists of over 20,000 panels spread across 30 acres and is rated at 5MW. There are over 1,600 members who share a say in how the cooperative is run and benefit from a share of the project revenues. The site was completed and started generating electricty in July 2011.
